Some say they like to see them clean, but that gives no indication of how they looked prior to cleaning... others like them to look as you saw them, so they can really tell the condition. When i emailed the guy, he said he'd let me compression test it right there... basically hook up a jumppack to the starter and roll it over... hook up a compression tester to each cylinder, open the throttle bodies and wallah... compression numbers. That's what I was going to do before I bought one. I'd recommend you do the same.
